Off the water, Sara has worked as a public health professional focusing on the human health impacts of anthropogenic climate change and health security. She attended Dartmouth College in the United States where she studied Global Health and Ethics, and went on to earn a Master of Science in the Control of Infectious Diseases from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Sara has worked for organizations including The Planetary Health Alliance, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the World Health Organization.
Notably, Sara was honoured for her outstanding support and leadership in CDC's response to the Ebola epidemic in West Africa, 2014-2015, by the National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases.
